New Build Oak Frame Chalets

Pine Bank Chalets, Aviemore, Highlands

The brief was to replace two 1970s single storey chalets with two new luxury chalets. The oak frame construction combined with large areas of glazing and horizontally boarded rough larch boarding externally, together with the use of timber internally and high quality fixtures and furnishings has created something that is not only extremely luxurious, but that fits comfortably in the landscape. In addition SIPS panels (structurally insulated panels) helped both simplify the build and speed up construction on site.

The buildings utilise air source heat pumps and solar PV to improve energy efficiency and help reduce their carbon footprints

The project was very much a collaboration between myself, the client and the construction team. I came up with various design options based on the clients original brief. The client was originally keen to use a log cabin construction, however, uncertainty over the cost of such a construction lead to changing this to oak frame with SIPS panels. I then prepared the warrant drawings and ensured everything complied with the relevant regulations. The client then co-ordinated work on site and all interior fixtures and finishes
